So, this make the Mississippi Children Choir from 1998 make so much more sense. My mom used to listen to the 1960s one by James Cleveland. And even as a kid, they difference between those two were so jarring. To know that this version is the one that the ‘98 one is directly influenced by this one makes it make way more sense

Wow, I forgot all about this one! I remember hearing this as a kid back then; hearing the female voices brought it all back to me. The arrangement is quite different and I never would have made the association with the later renditions which were usually performed in a minor key; this is more "major". I think this was also recorded by Milton Brunson and the Thompson Community Singers in the early '70s. I also liked DC Talk's rendition in the '90s. Thanks for the blast from my Gospel music past!🎶 Blessings. 🙏🏾

I'm almost 60 and found out today the originators of this song....always thought it was Byrds tune the Doobies covered either way Jesus is just alright with me and he is my friend ~

There's Thelma Houston front and center on the album cover. She later went on to become one the most renowned Disco artist of the 70's.

You learn something new every day! I had no idea this was first this group’s song…I thought it was originally The Doobie Brothers. I love it! Praise the LORD! JESUS is better than alright with me! He’s my SAVIOR! AMEN and AMEN!

I will admit I always thought the Doobie Brothers did this wonderful song originally. I recently discovered The Byrds had done a version of the song in 1969. Finally, I discovered that the Art Reynolds Singers were the ones who did this wonderful song originally.

My mom loved him and by her playing these songs all the time growing up I grew to love his music as well. Now when I hear them it's almost like she's here with me listening, I can clearly hear her voice singing along. Till We meet again momma!
